President Vučić visits construction site of new Serbian Armed Forces barracks in Priboj
The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, today visited the construction site of a new Serbian Armed Forces barracks in Priboj.
The event was attended by the Deputy Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Tiosav Janković, and the Acting Assistant Minister for Material Resources, Nenad Miloradović, Ph.D.The new military complex, covering approximately 5 hectares, occupies part of the former production grounds of the FAP Corporation plant in Priboj. As there were no pre-existing military facilities on the plot, containerised housing units equipped with the necessary internal installations and supporting infrastructure will be constructed in accordance with user tactical and technical specifications.
Construction of the facilities required for the operation of the military complex, including a fence, a guardhouse, a sentry post, a boiler house, and the headquarters building, is scheduled for 2027.During the visit, the President of the Republic noted that conditions are being created on the banks of the River Lim, in one of the most beautiful locations in Priboj, to bring the barracks to life and accommodate recruits.
- We have decided on the locations where various units will be stationed, paying particular attention to border areas. A mountain battalion specially equipped for the terrain in this region will be stationed in Priboj. We expect the military to be stationed here as early as next year. This will give new life to the town, to Priboj Spa, and even to Prijepolje. The arrival of a large number of soldiers is virtually equivalent to a new factory for the entire area.
We want to preserve these towns, strengthen them, and give people even more reasons to stay and build their future here - President Vučić highlighted.Prior to inspecting the construction site, President Vučić visited the FAP Corporation’s new painting and sandblasting facility and attended the signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement covering the supply of vehicles and special platforms, alongside accompanying integration and technical support services, at the company's premises. The agreement was signed by Colonel Ivan Delić on behalf of the Procurement and Sales Department of the Material Resources Sector, Acting General Director Dejan Golubović on behalf of FAP Corporation, and Technical Director Dimitrije Varjačić on behalf of Zastava TERVO Kragujevac.
The multi-year agreement covers the procurement of a significant number of military vehicles and specialized platforms for the Serbian Armed Forces, designed to integrate various combat and support systems and equipment. The procurement includes dozens of trucks, off-road and armoured vehicles, and 4x4, 6x6, and 8x8 platforms, designed to integrate communications systems, electronic warfare systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, and other domestically produced and imported equipment. In addition to enhancing the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces, the agreement will ensure production continuity and predictability for FAP Corporation and Zastava TERVO over the next three to five years, in line with the delivery schedule of the multi-year procurement project.
Highlighting the significance of previous agreements, President Vučić recalled that the defence industry is set to deliver 84 complex combat systems to the Serbian Armed Forces by the end of the third quarter of this year, which represents a major boost to our armed forces. He said that Serbia would maintain stability and peace, continuing to pursue a policy of an independent and strong country.
- We have fought hard for FAP, and we will continue to secure work for it, no matter how difficult it may get. The factory will continue to operate, and I believe that is what matters most to Priboj. Reopening the barracks will provide a boost to the entire municipality and it will mean a great deal to everyone supporting their families through their work - stated President Vučić.
