Serbian Armed Forces join efforts to fight wildfire at Deliblato Sands
Following a request from the Ministry of the Interior’s Emergency Situations Sector, the Serbian Armed Forces were deployed last night to help battle a wildfire at the Deliblato Sands.
The wildfire has spread through a large area of pine forest and low vegetation, but high temperatures, the wind, and difficult field conditions make firefighting efforts difficult, heightening the risk of the fire reigniting and spreading.Serbian Armed Forces personnel are working to suppress hotspots and prevent the fire from spreading, utilizing fire engines, engineering machinery, and improvised firefighting equipment. As of this morning, one of the Air Force and Air Defence’s Mi-17 helicopters has also been deployed to join firefighting efforts.
All Serbian Armed Forces’ activities are being conducted in coordination with the Emergency Situations Sector, which is directing the forces deployed at the wildfire scene. The operation also involves the Ministry of the Interior’s Helicopter Unit, volunteer firefighters associations and employees of the PE Vojvodina Šume.
The Serbian Armed Forces continue to monitor the situation on the ground and remain ready to deploy additional capabilities to protect residents, property and natural resources.
