Ministry of Defence, PE “Srbijagas” sign Strategic Cooperation Agreement
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and Dušan Bajatović, Director General at the public enterprise “Srbijagas”, signed a Strategic Cooperation Agreement today, under which the project aimed at integrating natural gas infrastructure into military facilities will be implemented.
Following a decision of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, approval has been granted to create the conditions necessary for the regular and continuous supply of natural gas to Serbian Armed Forces units, with priority given to facilities designated to accommodate soldiers during their military service.The project is an important step in implementing the Government’s strategy on renewable energy sources, environmental protection, and sustainable development, which will help reduce harmful emissions, improve energy efficiency, and reduce negative environmental impact.
Minister Gašić emphasized that the project is of strategic importance to the defence system.
- By integrating natural gas infrastructure into our barracks, we are investing in the energy efficiency of military facilities, cutting expenses, and making a significant contribution to environmental protection. At the same time, we are improving infrastructure, providing better living and working conditions for Serbian Armed Forces personnel, and, in particular, improving accommodation for future generations of soldiers – the Minister of Defence emphasized.He said that the agreement would ensure a reliable, timely, and continuous supply of natural gas to military facilities and added that the project would contribute to infrastructure modernisation and strengthen the Serbian Armed Forces’ energy security.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Defence, in cooperation with PE “Srbijagas”, will take all necessary measures to connect military facilities to the natural gas distribution system. This will include the construction of new gas pipelines to metering and regulation (M&R) stations, the construction of M&R stations and, where necessary, the installation of internal gas piping systems, the refurbishment and adaptation of existing buildings and boiler rooms or the construction of new ones, as well as the installation of gas boilers and associated equipment.
Also in attendance at the signing of the agreement were the Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Nikola Matović, the Head of the Infrastructure Department, Lieutenant Colonel Miloš Peruničić, and Jovica Budimir, Executive Director of Investments at PE “Srbijagas”.
