Wreaths laid at Monument to Heroes of Košare

On the occasion of the 27th anniversary of the Battle of Košare, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić laid a wreath today at the Monument to the Heroes of Košare in Belgrade, accompanied by Brigadier General Slađan Hristov, Head of the Human Resources Department (J-1), Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, and Brigadier General Nikola Matović, Chief of Staff to the Minister of Defence.
The state wreath-laying ceremony was led by Milorad Veljović, envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, a wreath was laid by Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, and Chair of the Government Committee on Nurturing the Traditions of the Liberation Wars of Serbia.

Chief Military Priest Major Protopresbyter Predrag Dokić, Chief Military Chaplain Lieutenant Colonel Goran Avramov, and Chief Military Imam Lieutenant Colonel Mustafa Effendi Jusufspahić officiated a memorial service for the fallen servicemen.
Minister Đurđević Stamenkovski recalled the sacrifice the heroes of Košare made for the homeland, resisting the enemy and defending the country’s borders for 67 days and nights. She also noted that Serbia is worth fighting for.

- It is our duty to say that this country is worth living for, worth fighting for, and worth persevering in our efforts to build and restore it. This country is worth investing all our effort, knowledge and skills, and doing what we do best, so that, as we approach future Vidovdans, when we will once again show ourselves as a nation, we may reaffirm our love and respect for the heroes of Košare, not only by paying them tribute and laying wreaths for them, but also by protecting what they left to us - our state and our freedom – Minister Đurđević Stamenkovski said.

Wreaths were also laid by delegations representing the units that defended the Košare border outpost, accompanied by their wartime commanders and family members of fallen servicemen, as well as by representatives of veterans’ organisations and associations committed to preserving the traditions of Serbia’s liberation wars.
Today marks the 27th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Košare, during which Serbian Armed Forces personnel defended the country’s border, repelling the terrorist KLA’s ground incursion into Serbian territory from Albania.
