Ministers of Defence of Serbia, Azerbaijan lay wreaths at Slobodište Memorial Complex
The Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, Bratislav Gašić, and the Minister of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Colonel General Zakir Hasanov, laid wreaths at the Monument to Fallen Members of the Armed Forces, Police, and Reserve Forces 1991-1999, located within the Slobodište Memorial Complex in Kruševac.
The ceremony was held as part of the official visit of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Defence delegation to the Republic of Serbia. By laying wreaths, Ministers Gašić and Hasanov paid tribute to the victims of war and highlighted the importance of preserving the culture of remembrance.On that occasion, Minister Gašić thanked Colonel General Hasanov for honouring the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces, the City of Kruševac, and him personally by laying a wreath at the monument.
- Azerbaijan is a country that demonstrates deep friendship to the Republic of Serbia, and as Ministers of Defence, we strive to follow the path and course that the presidents of our countries have been building for many years - Minister Gašić said.
Minister Gašić proudly presented to Colonel General Hasanov the T-55 tank displayed in the Slobodište Memorial Complex, which defended Serbia’s borders during the aggression against our country.- We are proud of everything the Serbian Armed Forces have done in fighting for their people and their country. With the support of President Aleksandar Vučić, the Serbian Armed Forces are becoming more capable, stronger and larger every year, and that trend will continue - Minister Gašić emphasized.
Colonel General Hasanov said that he had known Minister Gašić for a very long time and noted that the presidents of Serbia and Azerbaijan maintain excellent and friendly relations, which also contributes to cooperation between the two countries.
- We continuously exchange experiences. The Serbian Armed Forces have combat experience, as do we, and the exchange of experience is very important to us. We cooperate in many important areas, including, recently, cybersecurity, electronic warfare and electronic protection, as well as the use of UAVs. At the initiative of Minister Gašić, we have also established good cooperation in the field of military education – said the Minister of Defence of Azerbaijan.
The Monument to Fallen Members of the Armed Forces, Police and Reserve Forces 1991–1999 was unveiled on October 14, 2018, as part of a ceremony commemorating Kruševac Liberation Day. It was erected in memory of those who lost their lives in the conflicts in Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija. The monument was designed by sculptor Svetomir Radović.
