27th Zoran Radosavljević Memorial Regatta held
The 27th Memorial Regatta dedicated to Major Zoran Radosavljević was held this weekend on Belgrade’s Sava River and Sava Lake, with the support of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.
A total of 76 sailboats took part in the memorial regatta, held in memory of the passionate sailor and pilot Major Zoran Radosavljević, a member of the 127th Fighter Squadron of the Air Force and Air Defence of the Yugoslav Army, who died heroically on March 26, 1999, defending the homeland during the NATO aggression.Over the two days of competition, the youngest sailors, under the age of 14, competed on Sava Lake in the Optimist category, while more experienced competitors raced on the Sava River course between Ada Međica and the New Railway Bridge in the ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Cruiser, and Micro categories.
In the Optimist category, the winner was Marko Atić of the Palić Sailing Club. In the Cruiser category, first place went to Miloš Dobrosavljević of the Ada Sailing Club, while in the Micro category, the winners were Đorđe Poznić, Viktor Golubović, and Petar Jovanović of the Šarlo Sailing Club. In the ILCA 4 category, Sava Radibratović of the Sava Sailing Club took first place, while in the ILCA 6 category, the winner was Vladimir Vrebalov of the Zemun Sailing Club. In the ILCA 7 category, the best competitor was Luka Minić of the Gemax Sailing Club.Snežana Radosavljević Mažibrada, sister of the fallen pilot and sailor Major Zoran Radosavljević, said she was pleased with the fact that sailors have been competing in Zoran’s honour for more than a quarter of a century, as well as with the continued support of the Ministry of Defence.
- A River Flotilla vessel was present today. Yesterday, the armed forces deployed a helicopter, and the competition was attended by Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence Brigadier General Novica Gogić, as well as a member of the 101st Fighter Squadron. I am especially pleased that cadets of the Military Academy are present, since they are the future of the Serbian Armed Forces – Snežana Radosavljević Mažibrada underlined.Members of the River Flotilla and a military medical emergency response team provided safety and support during the regatta, while Military Academy cadets assisted in the organisation of the event. Officers of the River Flotilla also took part in the competition on a sailing vessel of the Military Academy.
To honour the memory of their colleague, members of the Air Force and Air Defence provided support to the regatta participants during the first day of the competition, performing a flyover on an H-145M helicopter from the 890th Mixed Helicopter Squadron, 204th Air Brigade.The regatta dedicated to Major Zoran Radosavljević was first held in Montenegro in 1999, and has been held in Belgrade since May 2007. Major Radosavljević was a holder of the golden pilot badge, was posthumously awarded the Medal for Bravery and promoted by order of his commanding officer.
