27th anniversary of Battle of Paštrik commemorated
A delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, headed by Acting Assistant Minister for Budget and Finance Goran Momčilović, laid a wreath today at the memorial dedicated to fallen members of the Armed Forces and Police at the Field Marshal Petar Bojović barracks in Leskovac, commemorating the 27th anniversary of the Battle of Paštrik.
Wreaths were laid by the Minister of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski, representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the local self-government, and veterans’ associations, as well as family members of the fallen soldiers.Twenty-six members of the Yugoslav Armed Forces were killed in the fighting at Paštrik. The 549th Motorized Brigade was awarded the Order of the People’s Hero for its extraordinary heroism in action against the enemy.
The memorial’s monumental pedestal is inscribed with the names of members of all military and police units who were killed during combat operations in 1998 and 1999 within the 549th Mechanized Brigade’s AOR, which encompassed the territories within the municipalities of Prizren, Orahovac, Suva Reka, Đakovica, and Gora.
