A ceremony marking Legal Service Day and its 162nd anniversary was held today at the Military Institution Morović.
Addressing those present, Acting Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Nebojša Nikolić reviewed the results achieved by members of the Legal Service of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces over the past year.- Through April, 2026, members of the Legal Service have been actively involved in the drafting of 51 regulations within the remit of the President of the Republic, the Government of the Republic of Serbia, and the Minister of Defence, which is a highly complex and responsible task. The Law on Military Education and amendments to the Law on the Serbian Armed Forces have been adopted. Particular emphasis should also be placed on the work on amendments to the Law on Conscription, Compulsory Labour and Requisition, which forms the basis for creating the conditions for the reintroduction of compulsory military service - said Acting Secretary Nikolić.
On this occasion, the most distinguished members of the Legal Service were presented with awards and letters of appreciation in recognition of their results, commitment, and professionalism, while Brigadier General Slađan Hristov, Head of the Human Resources Department (J-1), received a certificate of appreciation for his outstanding cooperation and professional contribution to the implementation of activities that are important to the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. The ceremony was attended by Acting Assistant Minister for Budget and Finance Goran Momčilović, members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, and representatives of the judiciary of the Republic of Serbia.
As part of the celebrations, visits were also organized to the Sremski Front Memorial Complex and the Privina Glava Monastery.
Legal Service Day commemorates May 10, 1864, when, during the reign of Prince Mihailo Obrenović, the first Military Judicial Code was adopted in the Principality of Serbia. In accordance with the European standards of the time, it established the organization and procedures of military courts in both normal states and states of emergency.
