Training on upgraded self-propelled howitzers

Joint training on upgraded 122 mm 2S1 M-21 self-propelled howitzers has been conducted at the Karapandža training ground near Kraljevo for crews from the Army artillery battalions.
The training, which involved crews from all howitzer-artillery battalions, was designed to improve the training process and increase the level of proficiency in the use of modernized systems, whose newly integrated cutting-edge fire control system has increased their firepower, speed, accuracy of fire, and effect on target.

Major Ivan Todosijević, Commander of the 23rd Howitzer-Artillery Battalion, said that prior to the range training, the crews had undergone specialized training at the Jovan Kursula Barracks in Kraljevo.
   — At the training area, we put into practice some of the acquired theoretical knowledge through tactical training and the calculation of firing elements. Next up is stationary camp and live-fire drills at the Pasuljanske Livade range – emphasized Major Todosijević.

Second Lieutenant Aleksa Pavlica, a platoon commander, emphasizes that the use of these modernized systems has reduced the time required for the preparation and execution of artillery fire.

— This has reduced the time required for orientation and laying of the gun and increased the range by 20% when using the M-10 projectile, or by 39 % when using the M-10 projectile with base-bleed. Crews’ speed of operation has also been improved, as well as the speed of displacement from one firing position to another – Second Lieutenant Pavlica said.
In the next phase, the crews will face more advanced forms of training and further advancement, and their gunnery and tactical proficiency, as well as the overall quality of the training, will be evaluated during live-fire tactical exercises.
