Regarding today’s incident in the municipality of Kanjiža, specifically in the areas of the villages of Velebit, Trešnjevac, and Vojvoda Zimonjić, we wish to inform the public that, acting on an order from the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Subotica, authorities have blockaded and searched the specified areas.
The operation involved members of the Criminal Police Directorate, the Military Police’s Criminal Investigation Group, the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, the Security Information Agency, and the Military Security Agency.During the operation, a significant amount of explosives was found, along with items and tools used for their preparation and potential use. The suspicious items were found in the immediate vicinity of a gas pipeline, i.e. gas infrastructure connecting the Republic of Serbia and Hungary.
The competent Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office has conducted an on-site investigation and classified the act as a criminal offence under Article 348 of the Criminal Code – unlawful manufacture, possession, carrying, and sale of firearms and explosives (paragraph 3 in conjunction with paragraph 2), given the large quantity and high destructive power of the materials involved, in conjunction with the criminal offence of an attempted sabotage under Article 313 of the Criminal Code.
Security forces continue their work on the ground, focusing on uncovering further evidence and identifying and prosecuting individuals who may be linked to the incident.The Ministry of Defence will continue to work closely with other competent authorities, taking all necessary measures to ensure public safety and protect the critical infrastructure of the Republic of Serbia.
