Minister Gašić attends meeting regarding situation in Lebanon

Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić participated in a meeting with defence ministers from European countries that are the largest contributors of troops to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL). The meeting was held via video conference at the initiative of France's Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Catherine Vautrin, in light of shared concerns over the security situation in the UNIFIL area of operations.
Alongside Minister Gašić and Minister Vautrin, the meeting was attended by the defence ministers of the Republic of Austria, Republic of Ireland, and the Republic of Finland, as well as representatives of the defence ministers of the Italian Republic, Republic of Poland, and the Federal Republic of Germany.

During the meeting, Minister Gašić said that the Republic of Serbia is closely monitoring the situation in the area of operations and is particularly committed to ensuring full compliance with all UN Security Council resolutions, which are legally binding to all UN member states.

Minister Gašić called on all parties to bring the conflict to an end, condemned the unacceptable attacks on members of the peacekeeping force, and urged United Nations institutions to respond more decisively to threats to their safety.
He emphasized that the Serbian Armed Forces remain committed to their tasks within the UNIFIL multinational operation and will coordinate their further actions and positions with the armed forces of the Kingdom of Spain and the Italian Republic, with whom they are jointly deployed on the ground.

A total of 169 Serbian Armed Forces personnel are deployed within UNIFIL. They carry out their duties safely and professionally, in full accordance with UN Security Council resolutions.
