100 new off-road vehicles delivered to Serbian Armed Forces units
Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, today attended a presentation of 70 newly procured Toyota Hilux motor vehicles at the People’s Hero Stevica Jovanović Barracks in Pančevo. An additional 30 off-road vehicles, the remaining portion of the total contingent of 100 vehicles of this type, will be delivered to Serbian Armed Forces units in the period ahead.
Minister Gašić emphasized that the procurement of the new off-road vehicles marks another significant step in strengthening operational capabilities.- By acquiring 100 new off-road vehicles, we have significantly reduced the average age of Serbian Armed Forces’ vehicle fleet and further improved the military’s ability to carry out missions in all field conditions. It is particularly important that the vehicles have been adapted to the needs of our units, which enhances the efficiency of task execution – Minister Gašić said, adding that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces will continue investing in equipment and modernization, in line with modern international standards.
On this occasion, the Minister of Defence and the Chief of the General Staff expressed their gratitude to the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, and to the Minister of Finance, Siniša Mali, for their support in procuring these vehicles and for their understanding of the Armed Forces’ requirements in terms of equipping units with new weapons and military equipment.Minister Gašić also noted that a further procurement of similar off-road vehicles would additionally reduce the average age of the fleet in service and further enhance the mobility of units.
Due to the specific nature of the tasks they perform, the vehicles have been additionally modified for use in various field conditions. The suspension system has been upgraded and fitted with suitable tyres, improving mobility in demanding conditions. The vehicles also feature additional protection, self-recovery and recovery systems, and are equipped with a snorkel air intake, enabling them to ford deeper water obstacles.Major General Saša Petrović, Head of the Logistics Department (J-4), also attended today’s visit.
