Ship from which World War I began – RM Sava opens to visitors on April 1
River Monitor Sava, a cultural monument of the Republic of Serbia, moored by Branko’s Bridge, will open to visitors on April 1, 2026.
The ship, originally named SMS Bodrog, was built in 1904 at a Budapest shipyard and saw action at the very outbreak of World War I. When the war ended, it was transferred to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats, and Slovenes. In 1919, by order of King Petar I Karađorđević, it was renamed Sava and it remained in service until 1959.River Monitor Sava underwent restoration between 2016 and 2018, and was officially opened to the public in 2021, becoming a unique floating museum.
From April 1, visitors will be able to explore this important historical exhibit on weekdays (except Mondays) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Tickets to the Military Museum will also be valid for visits to River Monitor Sava, and vice versa, allowing visitors to experience Serbia’s rich military and cultural heritage as a unified experience. In the event of bad weather, such as rain or strong winds, the exhibition will be closed.
We invite all citizens to visit River Monitor Sava and explore one of the most important witnesses to history.
