SAF’s high-performance radars in Air Defence System
Units of the 126th ASEWG Brigade, continuously on duty as part of permanently deployed forces for controlling and protecting the airspace of the Republic of Serbia, conduct daily training on modern radar-computer equipment and automation systems.
Training is conducted to maintain the skills of professional personnel and further develop their ability to carry out specific tasks, making full use of airspace surveillance and control systems, directing combat aircraft, guiding artillery-missile units toward designated aerial targets, and providing navigational support to aircraft in emergency situations.Among the 126th ASEWG Brigade’s modern high-performance systems is the GM-200 medium-range surveillance radar, a key asset in monitoring and controlling Serbia’s airspace.
Training on this system is conducted at the radar site and includes both theoretical instruction on the capabilities of radar technology and procedures for system maintenance and protection against electronic interference, as well as practical exercises focusing on manoeuvring the system between positions and conducting operations from backup radar sites. The GM-200 surveillance radar is a 3D, multi-role, tactical, mobile medium-range radar designed to detect and track all types of aerial targets, either independently or as part of an air defence system. It can detect aerial targets at ranges of up to 250 km and altitudes of up to 25 km.
The acquisition of this radar, along with the introduction of the modern long-range GM-400 radar system and the new SOVA 24 automated air situation processing and control system, has significantly enhanced the operational and information capabilities of the 126th ASEWG Brigade. These upgrades have also strengthened the overall ability of the Serbian Air Force and Air Defence to control and protect Serbia’s airspace.
