Minister Gašić presents gifts to female members of defence system on International Women’s Day
Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić presented personal gifts to 150 female members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces at a ceremony marking International Women’s Day – March 8, held at the Guard Club in Topčider.
On behalf of the Minister of Defence, personal gifts, flowers, and cards were presented to all women working within the defence system – professional service members, cadets, and military school students, as well as to women currently performing their military service. Gifts were also presented to medical staff and patients of military healthcare institutions, as a sign of support and respect.Minister Gašić said that March 8 serves as a reminder of the difficult struggle and victory against one of society’s greatest injustices.
- The victory does not belong solely to women whose social, political, and economic rights were gradually recognized and extended over the course of the 20th century. It is a triumph of reason and humanity, whose fruits we enjoy today. Even though dedicated to you, International Women’s Day is a holiday for all of us who feel immeasurable love and respect for our mothers, sisters, and daughters; for all of us who share the same goals, joys, and concerns with our female colleagues, for all of us who know that everything in this world that truly matters, through divine providence, comes from you and grows near you. For us men, March 8 is not, and must never be, the only day of the year to honour women and show them respect. It is a day to reflect on our actions and ask ourselves whether we have been cordial and considerate enough toward you. Of course, only you, dear ladies, can make that judgment. What remains for us to do today is to sincerely and openly acknowledge that your work, effort, and contribution both professionally and within the family, mean a lot – the Minister of Defence emphasized. He also thanked female members of the defence system for carrying out their professional duties with seriousness and responsibility.
- Without your knowledge, skills, and personal qualities, many of our goals would never be achieved. Thank you for bringing your unique energy and optimism to our complex work processes, as well as to stressful, often even dangerous tasks. Thank you for carrying burdens only known to you with patience and dignity, and for being, often unnoticed but always vital, the connective tissue that holds our families and society together. Hoping that you will continue to be a cornerstone of our world, our greatest inspiration and source of creativity, but also a firm support for our families and for Serbia, I warmly wish you a happy International Women’s Day! May you enjoy good health and may all your wishes come true – Minister Gašić said.
International Women’s Day – March 8 is celebrated worldwide as a reminder of the historic struggle for women’s rights and their fight for economic, political, and social equality with men.
