SAF personnel’s successful Sinai deployment
The Serbian Armed Forces contingent that served as part of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) mission in the Sinai since last August, has successfully completed its deployment and handed over duties to a new Serbian contingent.
During their six-month deployment, members of the fifth contingent of the Serbian Armed Forces participating in the mission conducted numerous engineering and infrastructure assignments, including the maintenance of buildings and systems, enhancement of technical capacities, and providing support to the peacekeeping force. What particularly stands out is their work on the construction of a new water supply and hydrant network within the peacekeeping force’s camp.By successfully carrying out their tasks and being dedicated to their duties, they worthily represented the Serbian Armed Forces and the Republic of Serbia in this international setting. They have been replaced by a new Serbian contingent, the sixth one since the beginning of SAF’s contribution to this mission, which was deployed to the Sinai late last month. Given the current situation in the broader region, the mission devotes special attention to peacekeepers’ security.
The Multinational Peace and Observers mission was established in accordance with the agreement signed between Egypt and Israel in 1981, with a view to supervising the implementation of security provisions of the 1978 Egyptian-Israeli Treaty of Peace. The Serbian Armed Forces began participating in the mission in July 2023 by deploying an engineer working group to serve as part of the American contingent. In doing so, the Serbian Armed Forces confirmed their commitment to building and maintaining peace.
