Military Medical Academy Day commemorated

A ceremony commemorating March 2 – Military Medical Academy Day was held today at this military healthcare institution.
The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Serbia Prof. Đuro Macut, M.D., Ph.D., and Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić.

On the occasion of the 182nd anniversary of the Military Medical Academy, the Head of this institution, Colonel Prof. Nenad Perišić, M.D., Ph.D., presented a monograph on the Military Medical Academy to Prime Minister Macut and a plaque to Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić, in recognition of their contribution to the development of this institution.
The Minister of Defence congratulated the staff of the Military Medical Academy and thanked them for everything they do in providing healthcare to both members of the Serbian Armed Forces and the citizens of Serbia.

- The Military Medical Academy is one of the most respected institutions in Serbia and a steadfast pillar of the country’s healthcare and defence systems. As a symbol of trust, it has grown alongside the state and its people, sharing their fate through times of hardship and progress alike. From its very beginnings to the present, it has overcome the most complex challenges and has always stood firm in the service of life and of the state – Minister Gašić said.
He emphasised that their calling extends far beyond the boundaries of a profession and demands strong character, moral strength, and true philanthropy. The true nobility of their work, he said, is reflected in the fact that in the most difficult moments, they become a source of support for those who need help the most. He underlined that it is a service where scientific precision and human care, duty and compassion, are united – and that it is precisely this balance that gives it its special value.

- Through you work, you affirm every day that expertise, responsibility, and humanity form the foundation of military healthcare. Your readiness to respond at any moment, even to the most complex challenges, ensures the safety of Serbian Armed Forces personnel and strengthens the trust of our citizens. A strong and modern military entails a reliable military healthcare system – a system that guarantees every service member is protected, properly cared for, and safe. That is why the Military Medical Academy is an inseparable part of the overall defence capability of the Republic of Serbia –Minister Gašić said.
The Minister of Defence further stressed that the Military Medical Academy’s most valuable assets are not only its state-of-the-art equipment and medical achievements, but the people who work there – doctors, nurses, medical technicians, hospital staff – medical professionals who perform their work with dedication, caring for people’s lives.

- A stable system rests upon people, and you are its most important pillar. We will continue along this path by opening the door to new healthcare professionals who, combined with your experience, will additionally reinforce your personnel capacities. To ensure that the Military Medical Academy remains one of the leading medical institutions in the region and a reliable support to the Serbian Armed Forces, we will keep encouraging the professional development of your staff – the Minister of Defence underlined.

Minister Gašić underscored the importance of the MMA’s educational and scientific research mission. In addition to providing first-rate medical services, he noted, it is here that generations of military doctors are trained, military medicine is developed, and knowledge is advanced – knowledge that represents one of the most valuable assets of the defence system.
- The accomplishments and results you achieve are outstanding. I wish to extend my special gratitude and recognition to you for the successful organ transplant procedures you have carried out in recent weeks. Your work is recognized beyond the borders of our country. The treatment of patients from across the region, the active participation of your experts in international activities, and your cooperation with healthcare institutions worldwide testify to the Military Medical Academy’s reputation – the Minister of Defence stated.

At the end of his address, Minister Gašić thanked the members of the Military Medical Academy for protecting what is most precious – human life, through their dedication and selfless commitment, and told them that by protecting the health of the soldiers, they are also preserving the strength of the state. He wished them good health, continued success, and the strength to remain a firm pillar of the Serbian Armed Forces and a source of national pride.

The Head of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel Perišić, said that the occasion they are marking obliges them not only to look back at the results achieved so far, but also to prepare precise plans to ensure a better future for the Military Medical Academy, honouring its past.
- What I am particularly proud of is the excellent cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Health, the National Health Insurance Fund, and the Ministry of Mining and Energy, aimed at enhancing professional efficiency at all levels of medical profession, as well as improving the living and working conditions of all employees of the MMA – Colonel Perišić said. He also noted that, at the initiative of the Minister of Defence, a public call was announced yesterday for the recruitment of medical professionals of all profiles, as well as for support staff for all military medical institutions. This step, he emphasised, will ensure the continuity of work and the stability of the military healthcare system.

On the occasion of the 182nd anniversary of the Military Medical Academy, Colonel Perišić presented plaques and certificates of appreciation to individuals and institutions that have made significant contribution to the work and development of this military healthcare institution.

The MMA also recognized its best organisational unit of the past year – the Clinic for Anaesthesiology and Critical Care. Colonel Perišić presented the award to the Head of the Clinic, Prof. Dragan Đorđević, M.D., Ph.D.
