New SAF medical team in peacekeeping operation in Somalia

A regular rotation of the Serbian Armed Forces medical contingent deployed in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) was conducted several days ago in Mogadishu, the capital of this Eastern African country.
The SAF contingent serving in this peacekeeping mission is composed of doctors and medical technicians – a staff officer serving as the mission’s Head of the Medical Corps and a five-member medical team.

Members of the Serbian Armed Forces whose deployment has ended, were serving with the mission since last August. They successfully completed all assigned tasks, receiving praise and the highest grades from their superiors at the mission headquarters. They represented the Serbian military medical corps in the best possible way, demonstrating the professionalism of Serbian Armed Forces personnel.

The new team of doctors and medical technicians deployed to Somalia last week will, just like their predecessors, spend the next six months carrying out tasks including providing medical support to training and providing preventive healthcare and treatment to the injured and ill members of the multinational force stationed at the Mogadishu airport.
The Serbian Armed Forces started participating in the European Union Training Mission in Somalia in 2012. So far, more than 140 doctors and medical technicians have served in the mission, serving within the mission HQ and as part of the medical team. By participating in both UN and EU peacekeeping operations, the Serbian Armed Forces contribute to safeguarding world peace and strengthening the reputation of our country internationally, while also confirming their capability to engage their forces and resources in a multinational setting.
