SAF contingents rotate in peacekeeping operation in Lebanon

A new SAF contingent, consisting of an infantry company drawn from the 2nd Army Brigade, staff officers, and a group of specialists, has been deployed to the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon.
They have relieved SAF personnel who were carrying out peacekeeping duties in the mission’s Sector East in Lebanon since mid-July of last year, operating in a complex security environment.

The contingent that returned to the Republic of Serbia last night was praised by their commanding officers and mission leadership for serving professionally and responsibly, living up to the reputation of Serbian soldiers and representing the Serbian Armed Forces and the country with distinction in the multinational environment.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ participation in the United Nations mission in Lebanon began in 2010. In addition to the personnel serving in Sector East, a SAF force protection platoon is currently deployed in the mission’s Sector West. The Serbian Armed Forces are engaged in eight other peacekeeping operations across Africa and the Middle East, contributing to building and safeguarding peace in the world.
