Farewell ceremony for SAF members deploying to peacekeeping operation in Lebanonof a new SAF contingent to the UN peacekeeping operation in Lebanon.

A military ceremony was held today at the Ribnica Barracks in Kraljevo to mark the deployment of a new SAF contingent to the UN peacekeeping operation in Lebanon.
The contingent consists of an infantry company from the 2nd Army Brigade, staff officers, and a group of specialists responsible for providing support. As part of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), they will be deployed for the next six months in the mission’s Sector East.

The Commander of the 2nd Army Brigade, Brigadier General Nebojša Nedeljković, wished the members of the Serbian Armed Forces every success in their mission, expressing his confidence that, like their predecessors, they would carry out all assigned tasks in a professional and responsible manner. He formally presented the national flag of the Republic of Serbia to the infantry company commander, Major Igor Josipović.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of units of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, local government officials, as well as relatives and friends of the soldiers and officers deploying to the mission.

Prior to their deployment, members of the Serbian Armed Forces completed comprehensive preparations and several months of training at Serbian Armed Forces’ training areas and facilities, preparing for their peacekeeping duties. In Lebanon, they will take over responsibilities from members of the Serbian Armed Forces who have been deployed over the past six months and have successfully carried out all tasks in accordance with the mission’s mandate.
The Serbian Armed Forces’ participation in UNIFIL began in 2010. In addition to the contingent deployed in Sector East, a SAF platoon tasked with the protection of peacekeeping forces is currently deployed in the mission’s Sector West.
