President Vučić visits Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Kobre”
The President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, accompanied by Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić and the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, visited today the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Kobre” at the Vasa Čarapić Barracks in Belgrade.
While inspecting the final stage of construction of a new facility for members of the Kobre detachment, President Vučić noted that so far, they had lived in substandard housing, yet had always been ready to defend their homeland and its interests.- This is the only unit in Serbia without a single member leaving military service when our troops were mobilized during the time when the security of our people in Kosovo and Metohija was under threat. Not a single man left the service or the unit, every single member reported for duty to their superior command – said President Vučić.
He noted that the new building has a floor area of 10,000 square metres across six floors and added that no other special unit anywhere in Southeast Europe has a building like this.
- The building will be used by other special units as well. We believe that no other unit of this size anywhere in the world has a facility like this. The complex will be officially opened on the unit’s day, April 14, and then you will be able to see how impressive it is. What is already clear is that everything has been done in a well-planned way – the President of Serbia said, announcing that the refurbishment of the facilities used by the Serbian Armed Forces Guard, a unit performing important work, would begin soon.President Vučić stressed that all military facilities are located within a small area, which is important both for the chain of command and day-to-day operations, which will be considerably eased in this way.
- It is all located within two or three kilometres, including the new Ministry of Defence and the General Staff building, which is not far from here. We will continue investing in the armed forces – emphasized the President of Serbia. He wished special forces good luck and much success, noting that Kobre members are preparing for a competition in Dubai, where they achieved notable success last year.
- The only unit in the region that was slightly ahead of us was Hungary’s special counter-terrorism unit -TEK, while all the others were behind. You never know, competing with Chinese and Kazakh special forces is extremely tough. We will do our best to achieve success. The most important thing is that the men give 100 percent. They get very little sleep, they push themselves, fight, and train to bring honour to Serbia and to show themselves in the best possible light, just like the members of other Serbian police and military units, the 72nd Special Operations Brigade, the Special Anti-Terrorist Unit (SAJ), the Gendarmerie, and the 63rd Parachute Brigade – President Vučić said and added that there are also plans to upgrade the accommodation facilities for the 63rd Parachute Bridge, which will make their day-to-day operations much easier.
During the visit, Colonel Darko Đošić, commander of the Kobre detachment, highlighted that thanks to the construction of the new building, along with the renovation and reconstruction of the other buildings within the Vasa Čarapić barracks, the unit, after nearly 48 years, now has state-of-the-art facilities providing the best possible conditions for housing, daily life, work, and training for all its members.
- In addition to facilities for tactical, firearms, and physical training, we now have everything else we need to support our daily life and operations. I would like to express my deep gratitude, both personally and on behalf of former and present members, for all that our state and military leadership do for our armed forces – Colonel Đošić said.
