Chief of General Staff lays wreath on Mount Avala to mark Veterans’ Day

The Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, laid a wreath today at the Monument to Unknown Hero on Mount Avala, acting on behalf of the President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, to mark Veterans’ Day.
General Mojsilović laid the wreath in a ceremony including full military honours, the national anthem of the Republic of Serbia and a ceremonial formation of the Guard. He was accompanied by the Commander of the Guard, Major General Željko Furundžić, and the Head of the Human Resources Department (J-1) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

On this occasion, the Chief of the General Staff wrote the following message in the memorial book:
“With sincere admiration and deep respect, we pay tribute to soldiers who courageously and unwaveringly defended Serbia and the freedom of all its citizens.

It is our duty, as descendants of our glorious ancestors, to justify our role by safeguarding peace and freedom and building a future of our homeland – Serbia on the foundations of their everlasting deeds.”
Veterans’ Day commemorates the date in 1918 when an armistice was concluded in the First Balkan War, granting  the title of “old soldier”, i.e. veteran to 400,000 soldiers of the Serbian Royal Army.
