At the ”South” Base and the “Borovac” Training Ground, a tactical exercise “Serbian Shield 26”, which checked the competence and interoperability of an infantry company from the 2nd Army Brigade for engagement in the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Lebanon, was carried out last week.

The exercise represents the final phase of several months of individual and collective preparations of the unit’s members for the execution of tasks in the area of operation in Lebanon, where our company is engaged as a part of the Spanish contingent.
During the exercise, the unit’s members solved tactical tasks adapted to those tasks that they may experience in accordance with the mission mandate and the control of the proper undertaking of actions and compliance with international training standards that the company should meet was carried out by the assessment team from the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

A platoon commander from the infantry company, Lieutenant Vladimir Filipović, emphasized that the training was intensive and that the personnel to be sent to Lebanon carried out numerous programmes in order to prepare for tasks in the peacekeeping operation in the best manner.
“In the previous period, the training included the reaction of patrols and teams sent to the area of operation in the event of an attack or encounter with mines and explosive devices, then the control of gathering, the security of checkpoints and convoys, the implementation of negotiation techniques, and medical care”, Lieutenant Filipović highlighted.

On the basis of the results achieved during the exercise, it has been shown that the infantry company had reached the defined standards and is fully trained, equipped and ready for engagement in the peacekeeping operation.
The Serbian Armed Forces have been deploying an infantry company to the mission in Lebanon since 2013, and a force protection platoon is also engaged in the area of this operation, as well as staff officers and a group of specialists responsible for providing support to the Serbian contingent.
