Road traffic safety campaign held at Military Academy
The third edition of the road traffic safety campaign titled Um na drum (Mind on the road) was held today at the Military Academy of the Defence University, located at the General Jovan Mišković barracks.
The campaign, organized by the Road Traffic Safety Agency of the Republic of Serbia with the support of the Traffic and Transport Section of the Logistics Department of the General Staff, aims to raise awareness about safe road user behaviour among students of the Military Grammar School and the 1300 Corporals Secondary Vocational Military School, as well as among cadets of the Military Academy and the Medical Faculty of the Military Medial Academy, including other members of the Defence University. In his opening remarks, Colonel Assoc. Prof. Dragan Trifković, Head of the Dean’s Office at the Military Academy, emphasized that cadets, even at the undergraduate level, have the opportunity to master the fundamentals of operating motor vehicles at the training centre in Kraljevo, most of which are combat vehicles. This, however, does not exempt them from taking the strictest safety precautions in public and civilian traffic, both as drivers and as pedestrians, in order to protect their own lives and the lives of others. In his view, young people are the highest-risk group on the roads, because they often overestimate their abilities and misjudge traffic situations.
According to Colonel Assoc. Prof. Vesko Lukovac, Head of the Military Traffic Engineering study programme at the Military Academy, the importance of this panel, held for the third consecutive year at the Academy, lies in its aim to build positive attitudes and awareness among young people regarding safe participation in traffic.- I would like to emphasize that the Military Academy offers an accredited Military Traffic Engineering study programme, which prepares cadets to serve as officers in the traffic service, specifically in the role of traffic engineers – Colonel Lukovac said, highlighting that through this programme, cadets gain the necessary skills and academic knowledge.
Branko Stamatović, Acting Director of the Road Traffic Safety Agency of the Republic of Serbia, together with his colleague, Milan Srdić, gave a lecture aimed at encouraging cadets and military school students to adopt safe practices on the road, with a special focus on wearing seat belts.- You are the future of this country and we think that after today’s lecture and simulator exercises, where you will grasp the importance of wearing a seat belt, you will be able to promote safe behaviour on the roads and explain clearly how seat belts protect you in the event of an accident - Acting Director Stamatović said.

Aleksandar Vukajlović, a cadet of the 147th class studying Military Traffic Engineering at the Military Academy, emphasized that all participants had the opportunity to experience simulators replicating different intensities of frontal collisions and vehicle rollovers.
- With both simulators, the focus was on passive road safety – emphasizing the importance of wearing a seat belt, and on traffic safety issues, such as avoiding alcohol and psychoactive substances and adjusting speed appropriately - Cadet Vukajlović explained. He added that after today’s lecture, he is even more convinced that all young people and road users must strictly follow all traffic laws and regulations, in order to protect not only their own safety but also the safety of others.
The campaign focuses on the most common risks faced by road users, especially young drivers, such as frontal collisions, vehicle rollovers, and driving under the influence of alcohol. By examining how often these risks occur, the campaign aims to help participants develop correct attitudes toward road safety, reinforcing and expanding their existing knowledge, which will ultimately help correct unsafe behaviour on the roads.
