Chief of General Staff meets with Military Bishop Dositej

Today, the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović, met with the chief of chaplains of the Serbian Armed Forces, His Eminence Vicar Bishop Dositej of Lipljan.
The meeting discussed regular activities carried out by the chaplaincy service of the Serbian Armed Forces, tasks performed by chaplains and their assistants, and plans for the celebration of the Serbian Armed Forces’ patron saint – Saint Stefan the Tall, Serbian despot, whom the Serbian Armed Forces have been celebrating as their spiritual and heavenly guardian since 2023, in accordance with the decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

General Mojsilović and Bishop Dositej came to a mutual understanding that the cooperation between the Serbian Armed Forces and the Serbian Orthodox Church was at an excellent level and emphasized the importance of the chaplaincy service for the fulfilment of religious needs of members of the Serbian Armed Forces - both Orthodox Christians and individuals who belong to other traditional churches and religious communities of the Republic of Serbia.

The Head of the Human Resources Department (J-1), Brigadier General Slađan Hristov, and the Head of the Office of the Chief of the General Staff, Colonel Boris Stojković, attended the meeting.
The role of the chaplaincy service is to make sure that members of the Serbian Armed Forces are able to exercise their right to freedom of religion, as well as to strengthen spiritual and moral values, and foster military virtues and patriotism. It is run by priests, or religious officials of traditional churches and religious communities, with members of the Serbian Armed Forces participating in the chaplaincy activities out of their own free will and conviction, while simultaneously respecting their military duties.
