Collective Training for Engagement in Peacekeeping Operation

At Base South and ‘Borovac’ Training Ground near Bujanovac, a force protection platoon of the Serbian Armed Forces is undergoing collective training for the deployment to the United Nations peacekeeping operation in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Collective training is the final and most intensive part of the months-long pre-deployment preparations of this unit from the Training Command.

After the successful completion of individual tactical and firearm training, the focus is now on practicing tactics, techniques and procedures for implementing the tasks that await them in the area of operation, such as securing the base, patrolling, checkpoint control, escorting convoys and riot control. All tasks and training scenarios are adapted to the security challenges in Lebanon and United Nations standards.

The training will be rounded off by conducting the final tactical exercise late this month, when the unit’ training, interoperability and readiness for participation in the peacekeeping operation will be tested.

The Serbian Armed Forces’ contribution to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon began in 2010, and the force protection platoon has been deployed since 2014. In addition to this unit, provided by the Training Command, an infantry company, staff officers and a group of specialists responsible for supporting our contingent are now deployed in the mission in Lebanon.
