Specialist training for telecommunications service soldiers

Soldiers of the telecommunications service, class March 2025, are currently undergoing specialist training at the Serbian Armed Forces IT and Signals Training Centre, Field Marshal Radomir Putnik Barracks in Gornji Milanovac.

During the six-week training, soldiers are trained as operators of teleprinters, radio-teleprinters, radio-relay links and telephone lines at this Training Command centre. The training focuses on handling and maintaining properly the communication devices and practicing the fast transferring of ciphertext and plaintext.

The training implies not only the use of devices that have been in operational use for a long time, but also the modern systems, such as a mobile battalion-level switching node.

Second Lieutenant Jelena Jovanović, platoon commander at the IT and Signals Training Centre, points out that the lessons are very comprehensive, since the mobile switching node consists of several different components.

— Soldiers had the opportunity to take some practical actions, that is, to establish a radio-relay communication between the mobile switching node and individual devices, to set digital telephone lines and establish telephone communication. During the lessons, they got familiar with the video surveillance service, Second Lieutenant Jovanović said, adding that if the soldiers get professional employment in the Serbian Armed Forces, they will be working with this system.

After completing their specialist training successfully, the soldiers of the March 2025 intake will be assigned to the Serbian Armed Forces’ units, where they could apply and upgrade the acquired knowledge and skills in a practical sense.
