123rd anniversary of death of King Milan Obrenović commemorated

A delegation from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, led by State Secretary Nemanja Starović, accompanied by the advisors to the Minister of Defence Nikola Banjac and Colonel Saša Jović, laid a wreath today at the tomb of King Milan Obrenović in the Krušedol Monastery on Fruška Gora, to commemorate the 123rd anniversary of his death.
The state ceremony honouring King Milan Obrenović, organized by the Serbian Government's Committee for Nurturing the Traditions of the Liberation Wars of Serbia, was led by the State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs, Dejan Antić. Representatives of the Provincial Secretariat, the municipality of Irig and citizen associations nurturing the traditions of liberation wars attended the ceremony commemorating the death of the Serbian ruler.
King Milan Obrenović ruled Serbia from 1868 to 1889. During that period, several liberation wars were fought, and Serbia received international recognition through decisions passed at the Congress of Berlin on July 13, 1878. King Milan died in Vienna on February 11, 1901, and was buried in the tomb located in the Krušedol monastery on Fruška Gora. He is remembered for successful reforms that would have long-term effects, such as a very successful reform of the army and fast Europeanization of Serbia.
