International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers celebrated

Today, a military ceremony was held at the Serbian Armed Forces Guard Club in Belgrade to mark the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers, which is observed in memory of 29th May 1948 when the first United Nations mission was established.
This holiday is marked both in the United Nations Headquarters in New York, and in all member states and it is dedicated to participants of peacekeeping missions, particularly those who lost their lives in the service of preserving the peace in the world.

The celebration held at the Guard Club was attended by Head of Operations Directorate (J-3) of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, Lieutenant General Želimir Glišović, members of the Peacekeeping Operations Centre, veterans and numerous guests.

Giving recognition and expressing gratitude to all participants of peacekeeping missions mandated by the United Nations, who risked their lives over the past 75 years in order to maintain peace in countries worldwide, General Glišović underlined the professional engagement, expertise and competence of members of the Serbian Armed Forces that they had demonstrated while performing all tasks assigned in peacekeeping operations.
There are 269 members of the Serbian Armed Forces currently deployed to United Nations peacekeeping missions who are executing conscientiously and responsibly all the assigned tasks, giving their contribution to building and preserving peace in the world, worthily representing their state and armed forces in international environment.
