Army Self-Propelled Artillery Battalion undergoes training

Professional members of the 4th Army Brigade’s Self-Propelled Howitzer Artillery Battalion are undergoing intensive training in the combat use of 122mm 2S1 “Gvozdika” self-propelled howitzers.
The crews of these artillery systems are using the training grounds and exercise areas in the vicinity of Vranje to train for carrying out collective assignments and providing fire support to Army evolution units.

At this time, the soldiers, officers and NCOs are practicing on-the-move tactics, gun emplacement and procedures in preparation for and delivery of indirect artillery fire and other actions necessary for delivering sudden, efficient and concentrated artillery fire against targets at various distances.
This training cycle will be rounded off with a tactical live-fire exercise, testing the competence of howitzer crews for performing specific tasks in cold weather when it is difficult to perform reconnaissance, choose and camouflage the fire position and perform position finding due to the snow and wet terrain.

The 122 mm 2S1 “Gvozdika” self-propelled howitzers are intended for the destruction and neutralization of enemy personnel and artillery weapons, demolition of strong points, wire and other obstacles, creation of passages through minefields and obstacles, as well as for illumination of the battlefield and creation of smokescreens.
