Minister Stefanović visits Army Command in Niš

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojša Stefanović, PhD, visited the Army Command in Niš today, accompanied by the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Petar Cvetković. Minister Stefanović pointed out that it is very important that members of the Serbian Armed Forces feel that their country is always there for them, that it takes care of them, their standard and equipment, and that they should show, through their work and sacrifice, that they are truly there for their people and Serbia.
The Army, as Minister Stefanović said, is the largest and the most important component of our armed forces, and today’s visit was an opportunity for the Minister to get acquainted with the main tasks of our armed forces in the coming period, primarily in terms of preserving the security of our country and protecting the citizens, which is the key task of the Serbian Armed Forces, but also with the plans for the development, modernization and continuation of training.

Minister Stefanović pointed out that the Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović briefed him on the current situation, development plans and the most important tasks of our military in the development of ground force.

- Our goal is, of course, for our soldiers to be better protected by providing them with modernized equipment and weapons – Minister Stefanović emphasized, adding that in 2021, the focus will be on the development of ballistic equipment, uniforms and new weapons that will become a part of the regular equipment of the Army.
Minister Stefanović stressed that today they also discussed the improvement of the living standard of the members of the armed forces, as well as the tasks related to housing and salary increase started by the President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, which he expects to be realized in 2021.

- It is something that the President and the Government are actively working on, and I would like to thank them in advance for thinking about the Serbian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defence and for the fact that the members of the armed forces can count on new salary increase even in such difficult circumstances of the coronavirus pandemic.

During today’s visit, the Army Commander, Lieutenant General Milosav Simović, briefed the Minister of Defence about the Army’s tasks, and during the meeting Minister Stefanović addressed members of the Army Commander’s Board.

At the end of the visit to the Army Command, Minister Stefanović was shown the Army’s Memorial Room.
