Military Grammar School’s Hall of Residence – a pleasant place to study and live in

The Military Grammar School’s hall of residence has been used as a student housing facility since 1973. After 45 years, in 2018, the Ministry of Defence invested considerable funds in its complete reconstruction for the first time.

Funds are invested in the accommodation of students of the Military Grammar School and Secondary Vocational Military School in order to enhance the accommodation capacities and improve and raise the living and working conditions of the youngest members of the defence system to the highest level.  Students of the Military Grammar School and the Secondary Vocational Military School, who are housed in the hall of residence in Humska Street, undoubtedly live in much better conditions today than the previous generations did. The infrastructural works in the Military Grammar School’s hall of residence are part of the MoD’s systematic investment in raising the quality of military education so that Military Grammar School students can be educated according to the highest world standards.

In the hall of residence of the Military Grammar School and the Secondary Vocational Military School, more than 10,000 square meters of accommodation and office space have been thoroughly renovated, i.e. 130 student rooms on six floors with a total accommodation capacity of 516 beds. Student rooms are equipped with modern furniture and inventory, which allows students to achieve better school results. In addition, the student bathrooms, common rooms equipped with modern furniture, the reception room, as well as the entrance and the hall with the school’s coat of arms painted on the ceramic tile floor were thoroughly renovated.

Constant nutritional improvements are being made and the restaurant in the hall of residence has also been renovated.
In the Military Grammar School’s library, which has textbooks and more than 11,000 titles, there is a modern reading room, equipped with computers, where students prepare for their classes.

On the first day of this school year, the most modern air gun shooting range in Serbia was opened in the hall of residence. The most modern equipment was procured, including the SIUS electronic scoring systems, as well as Walther Hammerli air rifles and pistols.
The visits of the high-ranking government officials speak of the importance of secondary school military education and the new attitude towards the youngest members of the defence system, which testifies that those who are the future of the defence system are taken care of in all aspects of their life and work.

The renovation of the Military Grammar School’s hall of residence is part of larger works carried out at the Military Academy of the University of Defence with the aim of raising the quality of living and working conditions of cadets and students, which can be considered a kind of investment in our country's defence capabilities.
