Ivanjca Grateful to the Serbian Armed Forces for the Great Assistance

Upon request of Emergency Situations Headquarters of Ivanjica municipality, members of the Serbian Armed Forces were engaged in providing assistance to the population in removing the effects of the floods.

Engineer work group from the Second Army Brigade, was engaged in the area of the village of Vučak tasked to restore communications from hamlet Jekići to hamlet Leposavići in the length of 12 kilometres.

Commander of the working group, Captain Đorđe Petrović says that there are several serious the landslides on that section, as well as rockfalls and destroyed passes that need to be restored to previous state and to repair that road for daily use of civilian population, especially now during raspberry picking season.

- We have already repaired a large pass in the very village of Vučak, next to primary school, and another two towards hamlet Jekići. Members of the armed forces are currently engaged on the most demanding section, where it is necessary to work on a landslide where the river completely washed the road away, which practically means that a new road has to be built – says Captain Petrović.

- On the section in front of us, there are many neglected passes and landslides – Captain Petrović adds – which we will have to recover in order to gather mounding material, which is our primary task, because then we can start with mounding the roads and restoring their usage.

President of Ivanjica municipality Zoran Lazović points out that the unrecorded adverse weather conditions, which several days ago struck that area, have caused huge material damage.

- Luckily, there was no casualties, but roads and water supply infrastructure were destroyed, and so far unrecorded torrent destroyed 22 bridges and caused great damage on agricultural areas, especially raspberry fields – says the municipality president and ads that it is the fourth time in a very short period that the Serbian Armed Forces came to help.

- Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović has visited us recently and we truly owe great gratitude to the Serbian Armed Forces for consistent timely reaction. The armed forces have helped us a lot, the engineer unit has been employed which has been working on the ground for quite some time, and we also had great assistance on clearing the damage of water pipelines and water supply infrastructure – says President Lazović and adds that the people of Ivanjica always underline that they love their armed forces and that they are grateful to them for the engagement that is of immense importance for that municipality.

During shortage of water in Ivanjica, the Serbian Armed Forces provided several auto-cisterns with drinking water for the needs of the citizens of the town on Moravica River.

After the adverse weather conditions which afflicted almost entire Serbia in the beginning of the last week, members of the Serbian Armed Forces, besides in Ivanjica, were among the first to provide assistance to affected citizens of Arilje, Blace, Prokuplje, Kruševac, Kraljevo, Trstenik, Gornji Milanovac and Mali Zvornik, thus confirming their readiness to be engaged in a very short period of time in any part of the territory when the citizens of Serbia require assistance.
