President Vučić in Niš: I have come to show that I am there for my people

Today, the President of the Republic and the Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces, Aleksandar Vučić, met with representatives of the local self-government, the Clinical Centre and other health institutions at the City Hall in Niš, and handed over a large number of masks, respirators for invasive and non-invasive ventilation and other medical equipment to assist in the fight against Covid-19 disease throughout the south of Serbia.

The meeting was also attended by the Chief of the General Staff, General Milan Mojsilović.

At the press conference after the meeting, President Vučić congratulated the citizens of Niš and the residents of that part of Serbia on successfully resisting the dangerous virus and said that he came to Niš to show that he was there for his people.

- This way we show how much we care for Niš, for the south of Serbia and that we are there for our people. People’s health is of the utmost importance to us. The first results of disciplined and responsible behaviour are visible in Niš, and we need to carry on that way," said President Vučić, adding that he is grateful to the doctors and all the people who behave responsibly.

- Every seven days we send protective equipment, supplies, and often respirators. We brought 20 respirators for non-invasive ventilation. We also brought pulse oximeters and everything needed for hospitals to function. We are also preparing ambulances with portable respirators. I am sure we will win and that one day we will be proud of how we did this. There are heroic people here. There always have been, "President Vučić emphasized.

The President of Serbia said that because of the exponential growth of the infected in this area, the hospital in Leskovac was transformed into a Covid hospital, and that at today's meeting additional facilities were designated for the admission of patients with mild symptoms, including the Serbian Armed Forces’ barracks at Pantelej in Niš.

President Vučić announced that the state is preparing an investment cycle with large investments and will accelerate measures to assist the private sector.
He said he hopes that by the end of the month we will be able to lift the state of emergency.

"I can see the light at the end of the tunnel for our country. We will deal more with the economy. We will slowly prepare and embark on huge investment cycles so that we can work and speed up our economy," said President Vučić, adding that the next 10 days are crucial, that by 20th April our fate regarding coronavirus needs to be decided.

Speaking about the outlook for the coming days, the epidemiologist Branislav Tiodorović said that the number of infected people will rise until Easter, after which a drop is expected, and that he hopes for a sunny May with “UV radiation index above 3”. He called for two more weeks of discipline and especially emphasized the strong support of the state to the doctors in their fight against the pandemic.
