Minister Vulin: The Serbian Armed Forces will continue to equip itself with state-of-the-art systems

Defence minister Aleksandar Vulin, accompanied by the deputy chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Major General Petar Cvetković, has attended today, at Pasuljanske livade training ground, the training activity in firing from Lazar 3 armoured fighting vehicle, which was carried out by members of the 21st Infantry Battalion of the 2nd Army Brigade.

- The Serbian Armed Forces are equipped with the state-of-the-art systems, and we are always especially happy and especially proud when such systems are the result of our development and our production. Lazar 3 is an armoured infantry fighting vehicle that meets all the world criteria and this is the one we really need – minister Vulin said.

In the coming year, the Serbian Armed Forces will continue to equip itself with state-of-the-art systems, Minister Vulin announced, adding that particular attention will be paid to the products of the domestic industry and that Lazar 3 will become part of the Serbian Armed Forces’ weapons even in greater numbers than now.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Nemanja Ivanović, platoon leader in the 21st Infantry Battalion, the firing conducted at Pasuljanske livade training ground was the culmination of the training in the operation of Lazar 3 APC, which has been partly carried out in the South Base at Borovac training ground over the past three weeks.

- In the last three weeks, we conducted training on Lazar 3 armoured personnel carrier in the 41st Infantry Battalion of the 4th Army Brigade. Lazar 3 vehicle is modern and can stand side by side with vehicles of the most modernly equipped armies of the world – Lieutenant Ivanović said.

Private First Class Nikola Marić of the 21st Infantry Battalion particularly emphasised the firepower of the Lazar 3 vehicle equipped with a 12.7 mm M15 machine gun.

- From my perspective, as a gunner, I can say that the 12.7 mm machine gun is accurate and reliable. The results of today’s firing were excellent, and we will continue practising with these guns even after the training is completed – Private First Class Marić emphasises.

Today’s fire training at Pasuljanske livade training ground was also attended by Deputy Commander of the Army, Brigadier General Vladeta Baltić, Commander of the 4th Army Brigade, Brigadier General Slobodan Stopa, and chief of the Training and Doctrine Department, Brigadier General Željko Petrović.

The Lazar 3 8x8 wheeled armoured fighting vehicle incorporates a very modern approach to armour protection, mobility, firepower and capability of long-lasting combat in conflicts of varying intensity. Lazar 3 has highly sophisticated modular ballistic protection, and the manning depends on the mission and weaponry the vehicle is equipped with.
