Serbia-France cooperation in the field of defence

Acting assistant minister for defence policy, Milan Ranković, has met today with general officer in charge of international military relations of the General Staff of the French Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Henri Schricke, in Belgrade. The topics of the meeting were defence cooperation and the possibility of enhancement of military-to-military cooperation.

Assistant Minister Ranković emphasised that the Republic of Serbia is fully committed to military neutrality, that the Ministry of Defence, therefore, continues to pursue a balanced defence policy and is constantly working on improving and further qualitative development of defence relations with all states and international organisations, in line with its national interests and foreign policy priorities.

The interlocutors agreed that the defence cooperation between Serbia and France is intensive, but there is room for its qualitative and quantitative enhancement in areas of mutual interest. At the meeting, it was emphasised that the main areas of cooperation are joint training and participation in multinational operations under the auspices of the European Union, military education, military-economic and scientific-technical cooperation.

It was emphasised that the cooperation between Serbia and France, especially in the area of the European Union Common Security and Defence Policy, is an example of a good and successful partnership and that cooperation between the two countries in multinational operations is of great importance.
