Meeting of Ministers of Defence of Serbia and Greece

Today, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vulin talked with Minister of National Defence of the Hellenic Republic Nikos Panagiotopoulos, in the framework of the official visit from President of Serbia and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić to Greece.

Miniater Vulin extended his gratitude to his Greek colleague for the principled support rendered by Greece to our country in its efforts to resolve all open issues in Kosovo and Metohija in a peaceful manner. Also, he expressed support to Greece in its endeavours to preserve peace, and its own national interests in the region of Eastern Mediterranean, saying that Serbia would support the integrity of Greece in accordance with the Convention on the Law of the Sea, just like it did with the Cyprus.

Minister Panagiotopoulos underlined that the two states had many things that connected them, and that Greece would continue supporting Serbia in its Euro integration with further development of bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The ministers agreed that there existed historical closeness between Serbian and Greek peoples which was translated in ever improving bilateral defence cooperation.

It was established with satisfaction that the military to military cooperation was possibly the most developed form of the relations having in mind the alternate execution of exercises HAWK in both countries, and the upcoming engagement of members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the framework of the EU HELBROC battle group. The interlocutors agreed that there existed a lot of room for further development of military-economic, military-educational, military-medical and other forms of the cooperation.

Minister Vulin and Minister Panagiotopoulos concurred that an official visit from the minister of national defence of the Hellnic Republic to the Republic of Serbia should take place as early as in the beginning of the following year, which would be yet another opportunity to intensify the comprehensive bilateral military cooperation, and the overall relations between the two friendly countries.
