Success of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces at the Novi Sad Marathon




The athletes of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have achieved remarkable success today by winning several medals at the 27th Novi Sad Marathon.
 
In the 10.5 km race for women, female members of the Serbian Armed Forces, were convincingly unrivalled winning the first three places – Captain Nevena Jovanović won the first place, Nataša Ćulafić won the second place and Marina Radovanović, won the third one. In the 10.5-kilometer race for men the winner’s podium went to Đuro Borbelj, while in the 25-kilometer race for men, Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljević was brilliant.
In the relay marathon, Special Brigade marathon runners won the 18-team competition.
 
At today's marathon, there were 133 athletes from the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces participating along with more than 800 athletes from 17 countries from all continents competing in five athletic disciplines - marathon at 42 km, races at 33, 25 and 10.5 kilometres and a relay marathon.
 
Captain Nevena Jovanović, a member of the ‘Cobra’ Military Police Special Operation Battalion, was appointed as promoter of this year's Novi Sad Marathon.
Today's marathon was also an opportunity to present the athletic team of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, who will travel to the People's Republic of China for the World Military Games on October 16, along with forty more athletes.
 
Among the members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces traveling to China there are marathon runners Lieutenant Colonel Nenad Milosavljević, captains Blažo Maksimović and Nevena Jovanović, Private First Class Đuro Borbelj, Nataša Ćulafić, Mihail Dudaš, Milica Emini and Coach Snežana Stančetić, all with impressive sports scores and medals won at prestigious domestic and international sports competitions.
 
Brigadier General Siniša Radović, Head of the Delegation of the Republic of Serbia to the International Council for Military Sports (CISM), spoke about these athletes.

- About 60 athletes of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces – track-and-field athletes, judoists, orienteers, shooters, paratroopers, wrestlers, taekwondo fighters, triathlon runners, swimmers, national team players of the Republic of Serbia at World Military Games in China will compete in 10 sports disciplines side by side with more than 6,000 military athletes from around the world. We are not immodest, because with such high-quality athletes, our expectations are high - General Radović said.
