Ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko: Long live the heroic Serbian people and Serbia!

The newly appointed Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko, accompanied by the minister of defence Aleksandar Vulin, has visited today the ‘Defence 78’ exhibition, which was organised by the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces at the Museum of the City of Belgrade to mark the 20th anniversary of the defending of the fatherland from the NATO aggression.

Minister Vulin presented to the Russian ambassador the concept of an interactive, multimedia setting, made up of eight thematically different units, testifying in a summarised manner to the events in the FR of Yugoslavia immediately before, during and after the NATO aggression.
After the exhibition, ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko did not hide his emotions.

- It is really very difficult to make a statement here. I will try to convey more a sort of feeling. First of all, I wish to thank, on my own personal behalf and on behalf of Russia, to those who made this exhibition, which is necessary for us, the current generation and the generations to come – ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko said, adding that the exhibition takes him back to 1998 and 1999, when he participated, as a member of the Russian delegation, in trying to find a compromise on the territory of the FR Yugoslavia, on several occasions.

- It was very difficult. In the end, there was this evil, aggression by NATO and we will do our best to prevent something like that, such aggression and evil, to happen again – ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko said, saying that the ‘Defence 78’ exhibition should be visited by all members of the diplomatic corps and foreigners coming to Serbia.
In the book of impressions, ambassador Botsan-Kharchenko wrote: “Many thanks to everyone who made this exhibition. It is necessary, crucial for the generations both the current ones and those that are coming. It is a very difficult feeling. Something like this should never happen again! Long live the heroic Serbian people and Serbia!“

The ‘Defence 78’ exhibition by Dušan Jovović is a unique guide to the interpretation of the NATO aggression against the FR Yugoslavia. It was realised with the support of the Military Museum and the Museum of Aeronautics, and the valuable contribution was provided by the units of the Serbian Armed Forces.

Today's tour of the exhibition was attended by Russian Military and Air Attaché Colonel Vladimir Korneenkov, Brigadier General Siniša Kresović, chief of the Defence Minister’s Private Office, and Colonel Duško Šljivančanin, deputy chief of the Department for Tradition, Standard and Veterans.
