'Climb for the Fallen Fighters' in honour of the fallen members of the Special Brigade




A send-off ceremony for members of the “Friends of the 72nd Special Brigade” Association, who are taking part in the expedition to conquer Mt. Elbrus summit, was organized today in front of the City Hall of the City of Pančevo.
 
The project, symbolically called 'Climb for the Fallen Fighters', is part of the activities within the framework of marking 20 years since the NATO aggression on the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and will last for 10 days.
 
The send-off ceremony was attended by State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković, Commander of the Special Brigade Brigadier General Miroslav Talijan, and Acting Head of the Department for Tradition, Standard and Veterans Colonel Duško Šljivančanin.
 
Before the departure, members of the Association had a reception at the Rastko Nemanjić barracks in Pančevo, where they visited the Memorial Room, lit candles and laid flowers in honour of all killed members of the Brigade.
 
State Secretary Živković greeted the audience on behalf of the Minister of Defence, Aleksandar Vulin, and wished good luck to the participants in the expedition, stressing that “by keeping the memory of the fallen comrades we are preserving our history creating the conditions for their sacrifice not to be forgotten”.
 
Addressing the audience in their speeches, General Talijan and Colonel Šljivančanin also wished the climbers safe trip and a successful conquering of the Mt. Elbrus summit.
 
Ten members of the Association and the Special Brigade set off to the conquest of the Mt. Elbrus summit.
 
After the summit climb, members of the Association and the Special Brigade will lay their flags and unfold a panel with the inscription “Above us only sky” containing photographs of 11 killed members of the former 72nd Special Brigade.
