Minister Vulin: Only strong Serbia can solve Serbian national question

“The creation of Greater Albania and the complete absence of international law are the essential security problems in this region. They are a threat not only to the Balkans, but to Europe as well, and they also constitute a fundamental threat to the survival of our people”, said Minister of Defense Aleksandar Vulin in a lecture to students at the Faculty of International Politics and Security at the UNION Nikola Tesla University.

“You can not solve the Albanian national question, and at the same time tell the Serbs that they have no right to solve theirs. Should the world repeat the mistake of giving concession to Greater Albania feeding it by the Serbian national body, what it will come to is that this Greater Albania will burn the entire Balkans. Evil knows no boundaries and can not be restrained”, Minister Vulin said.

Emphasizing that the creation of Greater Albania imminently leads to conflict, Minister Vulin added that all countries in this area absolutely accept the influence and power of the Albanian factor and that too many “random” things have happened over a short period of time; and so many things leading in the same direction can not be a coincidence. As he said, the world now expects Serbia to, first of all, neglect its own interests – without delineation, and to abandon the dream of resolving her national question for the sake of stability of Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- Serbia is expected to create the states of others and guarantee the peace and security of these other states by renouncing her own stability and her own peace. Serbia needs to promote herself and her own interests and to say that our interests lay wherever the Serbs live, to protect and preserve them, and also that Serbia needs to be established as strong and well-regulated country. Without a strong Serbia, there is no solution to the national question, said the Minister of Defense.
In the continuation of the lecture, Minister Vulin spoke about the campaign of revising history, trying to convey to students that history should not be underestimated. “First you read about Jasenovac being a labor camp and when you can not understand the reason someone would write something like this. Then you realize that these are the basic facts that determine our present life and justify what was happening by preparing for what might happen”.

He pointed out that Serbia has chosen to be a military neutral country that can not expect support or assistance from anyone else. “We will not do to others what they did to us. Therefore, we refuse to align ourselves with any block; however, this has a price – in times of trouble, and nobody can ever say that there will be no trouble in the Balkans, we must stand ready to endure and to defend ourselves”, said the Minister of Defense.

He promised to the students that “my generation, before you take over in what is hopefully a better Serbia, will do our best to preserve our people wherever they may live. That is our purpose. I believe that you feel the spark of that sense deep inside, because otherwise you would not have chosen to be educated to defend your country one day whenever the need may arise. Times do change, but to defend your country, to be with your people, this virtue is constant. In the history of our people everything has changed: the social order, alliances, borders, country names, but one thing has not – the stubborn and persistent resolve of the Serbian people to be free. This must not change.” Minister Vulin concluded.

Students of the Faculty of International Politics and Security had the opportunity to ask Minister Vulin questions, and were most interested in the position related to the reintroduction of compulsory military service, and also the situation in the Serbian Armed Forces, the weapons and military equipment, as well as the new developments, the essence of military neutrality and assessment of the cooperation of the Serbian Armed Forces with the KFOR, NATO, and UNMIK.

Dean of the Faculty of International Politics and Security Prof. Dr Violeta Rašković Talović, in gratitude for the lecture, presented the Minister of Defense with a book by professor Ilija Kajtez “Wisdom and Sword – Philosophers on the Secrets of War and Peace” and thanked the Minister and students on a well-attended, very informative and interesting lecture.
