Marking the Day of the 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade

In the Banjica barracks, a ceremonial line-up and presentation of recognitions for dedicated and sacrificing work of the 250th Air Defence Missile Brigade marked 24th November – the Day of the unit. The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Aleksandar Bjelić, Chief of Staff of the AF&AD Command with his associates, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, former commanders and retired members of the unit, directors and representatives of the institutions with whom the brigade cooperates, families of the fallen members, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church, local self-government and veterans’ organizations and numerous friends of the unit.

Recalling the glorious past of the unit and its development path from the 250th Air Defence Missile Regiment established in 1962 and armed with the then most modern DVINA system, brigade commander Colonel Tiosav Janković, particularly emphasized the heroic resistance of the brigade to the NATO aggression when 28 members of the unit were killed at the defensive positions performing the honourable task of the defence of Belgrade and Serbia.

- Numerous are the exams that the 250th AD Missile Brigade successfully passed, including the one that was most important and the most difficult but at the same time the most honourable, in defending the country from the NATO aggression. By patriotism, courage, achieved results, and especially by given human sacrifices, we deserved the Order of the People's Hero that we proudly wear – Colonel Janković said, adding that all the members of the unit are aware that the tasks they perform in peace are as responsible and significant as those they performed almost two decades ago defending Serbia.

- We are constantly engaged in the tasks of controlling and protecting the sovereignty of Serbia's airspace, implementing training of reserve officers, short-term volunteers and all planned tasks of training permanent staff. I particularly emphasise control and training firings, participation in the combined tactical exercise of AF&AD and live exercises “Century of Victors”. By participating in these and other exercises and execution of the planned training, we have preserved and improved the ability to perform the assigned task – Colonel Tiosav Janković said.

After presenting awards and acknowledgements to the best individuals for their sacrificing work in the period between the two holidays, a ceremonial parade of the units was held, and then the wreaths and flowers were laid at the Memorial to the killed members of the unit erected in front of the Command building.
