General Diković attends the installation of a piece of mosaic in the Church of St. Sava

Chief of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubiša Diković, with the members of the extended collegium, and Serbian Patriarch Irinej, attended today the installation of the last parts of the mosaic in the dome of the Church of St. Sava in Vračar.

On that occasion, General Diković and members of his extended collegium, in the presence of Patriarch Irinej, symbolically placed tiles in the part of the mosaic composition, at a height of 60 meters, which will decorate the dome of the Church, whose representation to the public is planned for the end of the year.

The installation of tiles in the mosaic by the highest military leadership symbolizes the determination of our army to preserve and defend the most important and sacred values of our people.

Over the past seven months, a team of 12 masters of mosaics from Russia led by the author of the mosaic composition, Academician Nikolay Muhin, was engaged in the installation of the mosaic, which has more than three million coloured tiles. The mosaic represents the ascension of Christ surrounded by angels, while in the lower part of the composition there is the figure of the Most Holy Theotokos, who, with two archangels and 12 apostles, watches the ascension of Christ and witnesses it. The entire mosaic in the dome of the Church of St. Sava weights 40 tons, and the surface of the composition is 1,230 square meters.
