Delegation of the Ohio National Guard Chaplains Service at the Liturgy in Lazarevac



The delegation of the Ohio National Guard Chaplains Service, that is on a seven-day visit to Serbia, attended today the hierarchical Divine Liturgy served at the church of the Holy Martyr Dimitri in Lazarevac, served by His Eminence, the bishop of Šumadija and Military Jovan, with co-celebration of the priesthood of the Diocese of Šumadija and military priests among whom there was a military Orthodox priest from Ohio National Guard James Seymour.
 
The US ambassador to Belgrade, Kyle Scott, was also present at the Liturgy.
 
Representatives of the religious service of the Ohio National Guard also had a unique opportunity to visit the memorial ossuary of the church where, in addition to the 20,000 Serbian heroes who were killed in Kolubara Battle, more than 30,000 Austro-Hungarian soldiers, killed in one of the most important battles of the First World War in Serbia, were buried.  The guests from Ohio could learn from the local priests more about the importance of the battle that is still being taught about in military schools worldwide.
 
After the hierarchical Divine Liturgy and the visit to the memorial ossuary, Bishop of Šumadija and Military Jovan hosted a reception for guests from the Ohio National Guard. 
 
During the visit, the delegation of the Ohio National Guard Chaplains Service is to visit the Museum of Aeronautics and two Protestant churches in Pančevo, then they will be guests at the reception with the Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church, Stanislav Hočevar, they will visit the Islamic and the Jewish Community of Serbia, and will also be received by Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubisa Diković.
