Open Day in the River Flotilla in Novi Bečej

Today, the River Flotilla organised the Open Day, on the occasion of “the Dormition Days” which is an event and celebration organised by the citizens of Novi Bečej on the Dormition of the Mother of God which is at the same time the Slava of the town.

The members of the River Flotilla provided an opportunity to the citizens of Novi Bečej and tens of thousands of visitors of the event to see for the first time the special purpose boat “Kozara” which is a river multi-purpose, patrol and assault boat, and to get insight into lives of sailors through talking to them and socialising with the members of the crews.

The most curious were the youngest visitors who, assisted by the sailors, quickly learned about helm, guns, aiming devices, and numerous were the visitors of all ages who, stepping on the boats, bid warm welcome to the Pannonian sailors.

- For all the citizens of Novi Bečej municipality this is a wonderful event, for them to participate in the Open Day and socialise with the sailors. This familiarisation of the population with the military is extremely good, particularly in an environment such as this one where there are no barracks or the soldiers. The River Flotilla members, as well as the members of all other branches of our Armed Forces are always gladly seen and welcome. We will try to be the most sincere and best hosts. – said Saša Maksimović, the President of Novi Bečej municipality who, accompanied by his family, visited all the boats anchored in the Quay of Tisa.

On the stand of Media Centre “Odbrana”, the citizens of Novi Bečej could be introduced to a part of publishing activities of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, and they will be able to see the boats anchored in the quay tomorrow as well.

The River Flotilla is unique since it has presented this several years long activity of the Open Day to the citizens at several locations along the river, so apart from Novi Sad, the sailors were the guests of Šabac, Zrenjanin and Čerević.
