Easter visit to SAF units



The Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic accompanied by the Deputy Commander of the Joint Operations Command Major General Slavoljub Janicijevic paid a visit on Easter to members of the Military and Police Force deployed to the possessed post “Kozjak” on the border with the Republic of Macedonia and members of the Serbian Armed Forces deployed to the possessed post “Sevadske livade” in the Ground Safety Zone.
 
The Commander of the Joint Military and Police Force Brigadier General Dejan Jankovic met Minister Djordjevic at the possessed post “Kozjak”, which is located in Sector A and covers 104 kilometres of the state border. He informed the Minister about tasks, which members of the Armed and Police Force execute since the beginning of deployment in July 2016. Besides prevention of illegal entering and smuggling of migrants they are responsible for the security of citizens and protection of their property. General Jankovic emphasized that more than 20,000 migrants had been prevented from illegally entering Serbia so far. 121 attempts of smuggling have been discovered and prevented and 139 smugglers have been caught. In recent 20 days, during the deployment of the rotation, which met Minister Djordjevic, the increased movement of migrants in the opposite direction, to the Republic of Macedonia, has been noticed.  
 
After Easter egg tapping, the Minister talked to members of the Armed Forces and Ministry of Interior, who are accommodated in the possessed post about possibilities of the improvement of conditions in this base.
 
Colonel Predrag Grbic, the Commander of the 3rd Army Brigade met the Minister at the possessed post “Sevadske livade”.
 
The Minister toured the base and then in his talk with professional soldiers, NCOs and officers he announced the intensive work on improving their material status, mainly the increase of salaries, which would not be linear, and professional soldiers and NCOs would have greater increase whereas high ranking officers would have a smaller one.
 
“We visited two bases today and made sure that the Military and Police Force does their job on the holiday just like any other day, and that the citizens of Serbia should be peaceful when it comes to their security. I would like to thank them all for their work on behalf of all citizens and to wish them all the best on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and Government of the Republic of Serbia”, Minister Djordjevic said after the visit to the bases.
 
During the evening, the Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic visited the on-call search and rescue forces at the military airport in Nis. The Minister talked with the Air Force and Air Defence Deputy Commander Brigadier General Savo Milenkovic and members of the Serbian Armed Forces engaged in these forces about the upcoming purchase and modernization of arms and military equipment of the Air Force and Air Defence, highlighting that a part of new resources will be stationed at Nis airport.
