Conferring awards to the soldiers who have completed voluntary military service

Soldier’s badge for voluntary military service and the Scroll of Honour of the Homeland were conferred today to a number of conscripts who had voluntarily served military service bearing arms in the class “September 2016” at the ceremonies held in the Guard Club in Belgrade and in the Serbian Armed Forces Club in Niš.

The awards presented to the soldiers in Belgrade were conferred by the Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubiša Diković, in the presence of the members of the boards of the Minister of Defence and Chief of General Staff, and representatives of the Regional Centre Belgrade and the Assembly of the city municipalities.

Expressing gratitude to the young people for having put themselves at disposal to their country as soldiers on voluntary military service, General Diković pointed out that serving one’s country had always been honourable and noble.

- In that way we give contribution to its progress and prosperity, and Serbia has always been a seedbed of good soldiers and it has always had good armed forces, and if that had not been the case, it would not have its freedom today – said the Chief of General Staff and added that due to the patriotism that those young soldiers demonstrated, the homeland wished to present them with a symbolic recognition that would remind them of their solder days and which they would proudly show to their friends, and later to their children and grandchildren, as it had been done by their fathers and grandfathers.

In the Club of the Serbian Armed Forces in Niš, the badges and scrolls of honour were handed by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Mr Nenad Nerić.
