Selection of candidates for professional soldiers started



In 19 units of the Serbian Armed Forces, selection of candidates for the direct admission of 500 professional soldiers from the records of the regional centres of the Ministry of Defence has started today. Registering candidates, more than 1000 of them, were realised in the units of the Army, Air Force Air Force and Air Defence and Training Command as well as in units directly subordinate to the departments of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.

One example of today’s applications is in the Guard, where out of 113 present candidates who applied for admission, after psychophysical and other checks, 59 best ones will be accepted into an elite unit of the Serbian Armed Forces.
 
Lieutenant Colonel Čedo Rajković, Assistant Commander for Support, welcoming the candidates for admission on behalf of the Commander of the Guard, Major General Milomir Todorović, wished them a lot of success during the selection process.
 
- You are in the unit that inherits one of the longest traditions in the Serbian Armed Forces, recognizable in the country and abroad, which in all festive events during the visits of foreign officials, and on other occasions, has a special honour and responsibility to decently represent our Armed Forces, Lieutenant Colonel Rajković pointed out.
 
President of the Commission for direct admission of candidates to the Guard, Head of the Division for Human Resources in that unit, Lieutenant Colonel Dejan Veljović, briefed the candidates about the conditions and criteria for admission, as well as the plan of activities during the upcoming tests. 
 
- The task is to choose the best ones, and out of 59 admitted, 49 will be deployed as the shooters in the infantry branch, while 10 will perform the work of drivers in traffic service.
 
Presenting the committee members and describing the course of selection, which will last until the end of May, he announced that during the day, in accordance with the approved criteria and standards, a general medical examination, physical exams and an interview with the Commission are to be carried out. 
 
- Each criterion is eliminatory, and in the end we will choose the best candidates objectively, based on the results of physical checks, psychological analysis and levels of education and training - Lieutenant Colonel Veljović said, announcing that the results of the security check, which for the Guard lasts for three months, will be known in mid-May. 
 
Commissions end their work by delivering a list of the best ranked candidates to the relevant commanding officers who are making their decisions on the selection, followed by admission, first for the probation period of 6 months, after which contracts are signed for three years, up until age 40, and for particular specialties up until age 50, based on the decision of the Minister of Defence.
