Defence Minister visited military pensioners – users of temporary accommodation in Novi Sad

On 1st January 2017 Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic visited military pensioners and their families who use temporary accommodation in the former barracks “Vojvoda Bojovic” in Novi Sad.

Expressing gratitude to Minister Djordjevic for his visit, after the traditional welcome of the host with bannock and salt, during the talk at the location of the former barracks, Savo Obradovic, the member of the Committee of Serbian Association of the military homeless, informed Minister Djordjevic of the problems of the users of temporary accommodation in Novi Sad and suggested, according to his opinion, possible solutions.

“I am familiar with your problems and I have followed them for long time, thus I am here today with you. They cannot be solved partially. Therefore I would like to find a complex, comprehensive, not a partial solution. There are more than 19,000 same or similar problems to yours in the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces”, Minister Djordjevic said in his conversation with the users of temporary accommodation, emphasizing that Novi Sad has real chances to solve the existing housing problems in the following period quicker than other cities and announced the allocation of a larger number of apartments soon. Minister informed the present ones of the talks held today with Milos Vucevic, Mayor of Novi Sad, about giving the attractive locations of the present military facilities to the city and building the common barracks in the Majurska ada area and a certain number of military apartments.

After the conversation with a great number of users of temporary accommodation, Minister Djordjevic visited a part of accommodation facilities and warmed the cockles of the youngest users’ hearts by handing them New Year presents.

Besides Minister Djordjevic, military pensioners without housing issues solved were visited by Brigadier General Zeljko Petrovic, the Commander of the 1st Army Brigade, since the facilities of temporary accommodation are in territorial jurisdiction of this Brigade and Ljubomir Draganjac, the President of Serbian Association of military pensioners.

131 families with 350 members live in temporary accommodation in Novi Sad whereas almost 200 families with about 520 members live there as tenants.

The visit to military pensioners in Novi Sad, beneficiaries of military pensions and their families in temporary accommodation by Minister Djordjevic represents contribution to the importance which the Ministry of Defence gives to this problem and the most serious intentions of Serbian Government to find quicker and more efficient solution, which of course raises hope of the most threatened ones.
