Enlargement of cooperation with UK

Defense Minister Dragan Sutanovac told at the meeting with his English colleagues that forming Kosovo security forces would be a needless expenditure and that this certainly would not contribute to the stability in the region.

“On the other hand, we wished to point out to our colleagues that we could be partners and that in the future Serbia saw itself as a full member of PfP in its full capacity, and we have asked for help in this particular area of education, training of SAF members”, said Sutanovac.

The Minister repeated that forimg the Kosovo security forces and accepting the uniltaeral declaration of Kosovo’s independence as this poses a great political burden on the relations between Serbia and the countries supporting this.

“ Nevertheless, we wish to cooperate bearing in mind that we wish to find a solution to the Kosovo problem at a diplomatic level and that was a strategic choice we made as a country”.

He also estimated that the military cooperation between Serbia and other countries was very important for the diplomatic relations as was the case between Norway and Serbia.

"Diplomacy has a very difficult job, but we have to hep it to carry out its tasks…Whatever the politics may decide, the Ministry of Defense and SAF will comply with, and would also try to renew old cooperation, and as for the experience with Iraq, this makes it obvious that we can make important business deals based on the previous cooperation”.

Minister Sutanovac, during his stay in UK also met with the Minister of the British Armed Forces Bob Eynsworth and the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign of UK.

At the London School of Economy and Political Science he gave a lecture where he introduced the audience with the stances of Serbia regarding the European integrations, relations and the issues of visa, while also taking this opportunity to lay commemorative wreaths on the memorial stone erected in memory of an Unknown Soldier in the Westminster Abbey.
